Wine tasting at the Octopus Beach Bar Restaurant Skiathos

By Thomas Karvounis

Wine tasting at the Octopus Beach Bar Restaurant is not an event. It’s a journey through Greece in a glass.

Right by the sea in Skiathos, with the sound of the waves and the salt in the air, we open bottles that tell real stories. Indigenous Greek varieties take center stage — Assyrtiko with its volcanic tension, Malagousia aromatic and generous, Roditis fresh and coastal, Limniona elegant and vibrant, Xinomavro structured and deep, alongside rare local expressions you won’t easily find outside their place of origin.

A special focus goes to Skiathos Parissi, the island’s own local wine, raw, honest, and deeply connected to the land. From there, the tasting expands to Thessaly, with its rising vineyards and character-driven wines, the dramatic terroir of Meteora, where altitude and stone shape finesse and freshness, the underrated vineyards of Evia island, and the diverse expressions of Central Greece.

All of it rounded out with carefully selected bottles from across Greece, showcasing the true range of the Greek vineyard today.

Each wine is chosen to match the rhythm of the place, paired with the sea, the light, and the relaxed elegance of Octopus. This is about discovery, conversation, and pleasure.

Just good wines, great stories, and unforgettable moments by the water.

At Octopus, wine tastes better. Because context matters.
