The Cuvée Gerontampelo
The Cuvée Gerontampelo is a robust, age worthy white wine made from 100% Assyrtiko grapes by Estate Argyros in Santorini, Greece. Its name means “old vine” in the local dialect and the grapes are sourced from pre-phylloxera vines over 150 years old.
The Cuvée Gerontampelo is known for a combination of power, structure, and elegance that pushes the Santorini terroir to the extreme. It is fermented with native yeasts and aged in French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks to develop its rich character.
Appearance: A golden, sun-kissed, or bright yellow color with some green highlights.
Nose: Complex aromas of citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit), roasted nuts, honeycomb, and butter, with herbal notes and prominent minerality throughout.
Palate: Full-bodied and concentrated, with high acidity and a smooth, oily, or buttery texture. Flavors include dense fruit, spicy undertones, and a bold, smoky, mineral character with a very long finish.
Aging Potential: This wine is built to age and needs several years in the bottle to mature and unfold its full complexity, with potential to evolve for more than 15 years.
Food Pairings
The rich and complex nature of the Cuvée Gerontampelo makes it suitable for high level gastronomic pairings.
Seafood: Excellent with grilled fish (like sea bass or red snapper), seafood, and shellfish (including lobster spaghetti and raw oysters).
Meats and Other Dishes: Pairs well with pork in white or lemon sauces, poultry, mushroom or truffle risottos, and rich, creamy, or smoked cheeses. It can also be served with roasted or lemon-sauced lamb.
